iptables configuration error

    hi all, i've problem in setting up iptables configuration.

    i've had following this instruction with changing the dport using my own port

    but, this is the error message when i execute: iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.test.rules

    "ptables-restore v1.3.8: iptables-restore: unable to initialize table 'filter
    Error occured at line: 1

    help me plz guys! thanks

    'filter?

    The iptables file begins with *filter.

    Check iptables file for typos. Did you add any extra rules apart from those mentioned by PickledOnion?

    I am new to all this, and had the same problem.
    Fixed it by running 'sudo iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.test.rules'

    AdrianoF: It may help to review some of our setup guides as iptables configuration is addressed specifically on initial setup.

    If you are not comfortable working with Iptables, then there are alternatives available. You can try programs such as Firestarter or Guarddog. Please find links below.

    Try and do the command:

    sudo -c 'iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.test.rules'

    iptables has stopped functioning. When run with 'sudo iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.up.rules', It issues this message:

    FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31-302-rs/modules.dep: No such file or directory
    iptables-restore v1.3.8: iptables-restore: unable to initialize table 'filter'

    Error occurred at line: 2

    The iptables.up.rules were created from PickledOnions guidelines, and verbatim continue to work on my other slice. Running with iptables.test.rules gets the same error. Uninstalling ('purge') and reinstalling with aptitude gets no improvement. There is indeed no /lib/modules/2.6.31-302-rs directory, but there is a /lib/modules/2.6.24-23-xen.

    Does the xen VPS system have its own iptables that cannot be upgraded with generic apt/aptitude?

    Hi dkeeney,

    You should try to upgrade your kernel to the latest or switch kernels on the slice. This should hopefully resolve the issues your having.
