ssh connections (and only ssh connections) freezing
  • Hey, I've been using a slice for about a year with amazingly few problems. I only access it via SSH and HTTP, and lately, I've been having this strange problem. I'll have several shells open on my host via SSH, and all at once, they all freeze for minutes at a time. During this time, I can still ping the host and do HTTP requests with no problems whatsoever. After a minute or so, the connections all wake up at once and I get a ton of buffered up IO all at once.

I've never had this problem so regularly on any other machine. Is this something peculiar to my slice? Slicehost? A common misconfiguration of sshd? (note: this is not the problem with connections taking a long time to set up due to reverse DNS being slow...this occurs well after the connection has been up for a while)
  • You're not alone. I'm noticing the same thing. Perhaps we're on the same host. I sent in a ticket and the networking gurus are looking into it.
  • Hey guys,

We have been investigating the issue for several days and believe it may be resolved at this time.

Are you still experiencing any delays or pauses when using ssh on your slice? If so, we ask that you please provide a traceroute from your current location to the slice's IP to help us further diagnose the issue.

Please submit a ticket through the SliceManager with the results as well as a detailed description of the issue.

    Thanks

    -Mark
  • I spent the evening doing some work on the server and the issue seems to be resolved. Responsiveness also seemed to be a little bit better.
